Need to legally dispose of your food waste?
Since 6 April 2024, businesses in Wales that produce more than 5kg of food waste a week are required to separate it from other waste and have it collected separately.
It is also illegal to dispose of food waste in the sewerage system.
The law applies not only to hotels, restaurants, cafes and other businesses, but also to organisations such as hospitals, prisons and colleges.
The relevant legislation is:
Similar legislation is already in force in Scotland, and will be introduced in England from 31 March 2025, under the provisions of the Environment Act 2021.
Under the new regulations, many businesses and organisations will be paying to have their food waste collected weekly.
But what if you could avoid the hassle and expense of collections – and maybe even make money from your waste food?
That’s where the Eco-Digester comes in …
Using enzymes to break down organic matter, the Eco-Digester quickly turns waste fruit, vegetables, fish and meat into compost.
And by ‘quickly’ we mean within just 24 hours!
The compost can be used in gardens, nurseries, allotments and can even be sold – potentially enabling businesses and other organisations to generate income from waste.
Businesses that invest in an Eco-Digester are taking a responsible approach to managing their food waste and promoting a circular economy.
